Cytokine profile (IL-2, IL-6, IL-17, IL-22, and TNF-α) in vitiligo—New insight into pathogenesis of disease
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Jun 14, 2018
Sushama S, et al. - Authors evaluated the serum levels of cytokines secreted by Th1 (IL-2, TNF-α), Th2 (IL-6), and Th17 cells (IL-17, IL-22) in patients with localized vitiligo and generalized vitiligo. They also correlated their levels with the extent, duration, and activity of the disease. An important role was played by the cytokines secreted by Th17 cells in the maintenance and spread of vitiligo as they increase in line with extent of disease. Findings suggested a proportionate increase of TNF-α with activity of the disease. Hence for identifying patient with aggressive disease, it may act as a biomarker.
