Cross-sectional study about the use of telemedicine for type 2 diabetes mellitus management in Spain: Patient’s perspective, the EnREDa2 Study
BMJ Open Jun 30, 2019
Rodríguez-Fortúnez P, et al. - Via an observational, cross-sectional study carried out on 1,036 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with a structured questionnaire in Spain, researchers characterized patients’ perceptions regarding telemedicine (TM) and ascertained preferences on TM resources. Prior knowledge of TM was recorded in 9.8% of patients, out of which 70.5% were content with it and 73.5% recognized that using TM improved their T2DM management. Also, in comparison to naive patients, experienced patients had better perception about the benefits of TM. Patients believed that the involvement of physicians and pharmacists in promoting TM could boost its use. Nearly 10% of patients with T2DM in Spain were experienced with TM, especially when based on glucometers, and it is well-accepted. The optimization of more effortless and time-saving programs for patient-physician communication should be utilized to promote TM.
