Criminal justice outcomes over 5 years after randomization to buprenorphine-naloxone or methadone treatment for opioid use disorder
Addiction May 08, 2019
Evans EA, et al. - In 2011-2014, researchers conducted a 5-year follow-up of 303 opioid-dependent participants who had entered three opioid treatment programs in California in 2006-2009 and received either buprenorphine/naloxone (N=179) or methadone (N=124) and compared them for the long-term criminal justice outcomes. Compared to no treatment, continued treatment with either buprenorphine or methadone was related to a decline in arrests. They noted higher likelihood of arrest in correlation to cocaine use, injection drug use, Hispanic ethnicity and younger age.
