Creatinine–cystatin C ratio and mortality in patients receiving intensive care and continuous kidney replacement therapy: A retrospective cohort study

American Journal of Kidney Diseases Oct 27, 2020

Jung CY, Joo YS, Kim HW, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective cohort analysis to examine how the creatinine:cystatin C ratio could be related to outcomes in patients experiencing acute kidney injury (AKI) receiving continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT). They analyzed a total of 1,588 patients managed with intensive care as well as CKRT for AKI at a tertiary Korean medical center. Cox proportional hazard models were applied. In higher creatinine:cystatin C ratio groups, significantly lower 30- and 90-day death rates were reported. Overall, in patients undergoing intensive care and CKRT, a better survival was noted in relation to higher creatinine:cystatin C ratios.
