Correlation between plasma ferritin level and gestational diabetes mellitus and its impact on fetal macrosomia
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Jun 29, 2018
Wang Z, et al. - Experts scrutinized the connection between plasma iron levels and gestational diabetes mellitus, and in addition its effect on macrosomia. For this analysis, ferritin level and other characteristics were retrospectively compared between pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and pregnant women without GDM. Participants in the study were 793 pregnant women. Results of this study suggested that pregnant women with high levels of ferritin could be prone to GDM and a high level of ferritin could be an independent risk factor for macrosomia. In non-anemic pregnant women, the negative effect of iron supplementation could be noteworthy.
