Correcting astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery: Toric IOLs and corneal relaxing incisions planned with an image-guidance system and intraoperative aberrometer vs manual planning and surgery
Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery May 03, 2019
Solomon KD, et al. - The outcomes of the combination of an image-guided system and intraoperative aberrometer were compared with those of the surgeon's standard of care in correcting astigmatism using toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) or corneal incisions. In this prospective case series, toric IOLs were used in 38 eyes and corneal astigmatic incisions were undertaken in 40 eyes. Observations revealed no significant improvement in outcomes with the combined use of an image-guided system and intraoperative aberrometer when compared with the surgeon's standard of care. The image-guided system and the optical biometer showed good agreement in corneal astigmatism measurements as per keratometry.
