Fung SSM, El Hamouly A, Sami H, et al. - Researchers undertook this prospective longitudinal observational study to analyze the longitudinal impact of anterior chamber inflammation on the corneal endothelium in children. Participants were children (aged <18 years) having anterior chamber inflammation and those carrying a risk of experiencing uveitis because of juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Non-contact specular microscopy was performed to ascertain alterations in central endothelial cell density (ECD) and morphological variables. Findings revealed that in children with uveitis, there was a link of longitudinal ECD changes with intraocular surgery for uveitis-associated complications but not uveitis activity. In these children, preservation of corneal endothelium may be achieved by attenuating the requirement for surgical intervention.
