Control-matched comparison of refractive and visual outcomes between small incision lenticule extraction and femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK
Clinical Ophthalmology May 24, 2018
Kataoka T, et al. - Authors compared the visual and refractive outcomes between small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and LASIK. They matched and enrolled the patients who underwent SMILE or LASIK according to preoperative manifest refractive spherical equivalents. Similar high efficacy and safety were achieved by both groups. Compared to LASIK surgery, SMILE surgery led to higher refractive power correction in the peripheral cornea. As per data, 20/13 or better-uncorrected distance visual acuity was achieved by 82.4% and 85.3% of patients in the SMILE and LASIK groups.
