Contributions of A1c, fasting plasma glucose, and 2-hour plasma glucose to prediabetes prevalence: NHANES 2011-2014
Annals of Epidemiology Aug 03, 2018
Menke A, et al. - The contributions of A1c, fasting plasma glucose, and 2-hour plasma glucose to prediabetes prevalence were characterized. In addition, how US population subgroups differed regarding those contributions was determined. In the 2011-2014 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, researchers created area-proportional 3-Venn diagrams among participants without diabetes (N=3,387), showing the proportion above the prediabetes cutpoint for each of the three markers in the overall population and in subgroups defined by age, race/ethnicity, sex, and body mass index. Findings suggest that in the overall population, the largest contributor to prediabetes prevalence was fasting plasma glucose, followed by A1c and then 2-hour plasma glucose.
