Consumption of fruits and vegetables and cardiovascular mortality in renal transplant recipients: A prospective cohort study
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Feb 13, 2020
Sotomayor CG, Gomes-Neto AW, Eisenga MF, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, researchers explored the connections between consumption of fruits and vegetables and cardiovascular mortality in renal transplant recipients (RTRs). To evaluate the risk of cardiovascular mortality, Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards regression analyses have been performed. Participants in the study were 400 RTRs (aged 52 ± 12 years). In RTRs, relatively higher vegetable consumption is independently and strongly linked to lower cardiovascular mortality. In addition, relatively higher fruit consumption is related to lower cardiovascular mortality, although especially in RTRs with eGFR > 45 mL/min/1.73 m2 or absence of proteinuria.
