Consumption of a defined, plant-based diet reduces lipoprotein(a), inflammation, and other atherogenic lipoproteins and particles within four weeks

Clinical Cardiology Jul 27, 2018

Najjar RS, et al. - Whether adherence to a defined, plant-based diet for four weeks reduces lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) was investigated in this secondary analysis of a previous trial on overweight and obese individuals (n=31) with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol concentrations >100 mg/dL. Study participants ate a defined, plant-based diet for four weeks. Data analysis was carried out using a paired samples t-test. Findings demonstrated a favorable impact of a defined, plant-based diet on Lp(a), inflammatory indicators, and other atherogenic lipoproteins and particles. Impact of diet on Lp(a) was previously thought to be minimal, but in this study Lp(a) was substantially reduced by a defined, plant-based diet.
