Condom use and incident sexually transmitted infection after initiation of long-acting reversible contraception
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Sep 20, 2017
Mcnicholas CP, et al. - The changes in condom utilization and incidence of sexually transmitted infection acquisition among new initiators of long-acting reversible contraceptives to those initiating non-long acting reversible contraceptive methods were compared in this study. It was concluded that the long-acting reversible contraceptive initiators reported lower rates of consistent condom use but did not show a change in condom utilization when compared to pre-initiation behaviors. Long-acting reversible contraceptive users will probably acquire a sexually transmitted infection in the 1 year following initiation.
