Complications following operative treatment of supination-adduction type ii (ao/ota 44a2.3) ankle fractures
Injury Mar 22, 2020
Carney J, et al. - In this study, the complications and outcomes following operative fixation of supination-adduction (SAD) type 2 ankle fractures were described. Between 2006 and 2018, researchers distinguished all SAD-2 ankle fractures that presented at our institution's two hospitals. This study noted demographics, operative data, and complications (deep infection, superficial infection, delayed union, failure of fixation, and unplanned reoperation) for all patients. They conducted univariate and multivariate analysis to distinguish risk factors for complication or poor functional outcome score. The total number of individuals included in the study were 65. It was noted that, for SAD (OTA/AO 44A2.3) type 2 ankle fractures, overall complication rate is similar to that of the general ankle fracture population. This study could not distinguish risk factors for complication or reoperation. It was noted that mean patient reported outcomes are within one standard deviation of the general population. 65 patients met inclusion criteria.
