Comparison of pedal soft tissue thickness between those with and without diabetes
The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery Jun 06, 2018
Oh S, et al. - Authors gauged the severity of pedal soft tissue atrophy caused by diabetes and ageing. From February 2009 to February 2016, they examined the feet of 261 patients treated in their hospital using magnetic resonance imaging. Findings suggested that compared to nondiabetic patients, diabetic patients experience more severe plantar soft tissue atrophy. In order to enable the prediction of pedal soft tissue atrophy severity in diabetic patients, experts developed a standard procedure. Compared to nondiabetic patients, the soft tissue under the first to fourth metatarsal heads was thinner in the diabetic patients. In either group, ageing had no effect on pedal soft tissue atrophy.
