Comparison of intravenous and topical tranexamic acid in total knee arthroplasty

Wei W, et al. - Researchers gauged the clinical effectiveness of intravenous (IV) and topical tranexamic acid (TXA) in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) by comparing safety, efficacy and patient-reported outcomes. In reducing perioperative blood loss in primary TKA, topical TXA was not inferior to IV administration. Findings suggested significantly greater number of transfused red blood cell units and significantly lower post-operative VAS score in the Intravenous Group.
