Comparison of integrated outpatient palliative care with standard care in patients with Parkinson disease and related disorders; A randomized clinical trial
JAMA Feb 20, 2020
Kluger BM, Miyasaki J, Katz M, et al. - A randomized clinical trial was designed to evaluate whether outpatient palliative care (PC) is correlated with improvements in patient-centered outcomes compared with standard care among patients with Parkinson disease and related disorders (PDRD) and their caregivers. Between November 1, 2015, and September 30, 2017, individuals were included at 3 academic tertiary care centers and followed them up for 1 year. Researchers recruited a sum of 584 individuals with PDRD. Compared with standard care alone, outpatient PC are correlated with benefits among individuals with PDRD. This research supports efforts to integrate PC into PDRD care. The lack of diversity and implementation of PC at experienced centers implies a requirement for implementation research in other populations and care settings.
