Journal of Thoracic Disease Feb 08, 2018
Fang Y, et al. - In this retrospective study, closed-chest drainage was compared with rib resection closed drainage for treating chronic tuberculous empyema. Findings demonstrated efficacy of closed-chest drainage for treating empyema in young patients, and less-invasive nature of this procedure as compared with rib resection closed drainage. Furthermore, closed-chest drainage was found to be associated with less severe pain. Hence, closed-chest drainage was recommended for the majority of young patients with empyema, except for those with other diseases.
