Comparison of 1-year surgical outcomes of combined cataract surgery and gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) vs cataract surgery and iStent Inject
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology May 24, 2021
Hamze H, Mohite AA, Pandey P, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective case-control study to test the effectiveness, safety, and complication rates of phacoemulsification cataract surgery when combined with either gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) or iStent Inject. For this analysis, they compared the surgical outcomes of combined phacoemulsification cataract surgery with either GATT (phaco-GATT) or iStent Inject (phaco-iStent). Each group had 37 patients. Phaco-GATT and phaco-iStent both showed a significant reduction in IOP and the number of glaucoma medications, with phaco-GATT showing a significantly greater reduction. The phaco-iStent appears to have a higher safety profile and is likely to be preferred in monocular patients and those at high risk of bleeding.
