Comparing treatment of acute retinal necrosis with either oral valaciclovir or intravenous aciclovir
American Journal of Ophthalmology Feb 21, 2018
Baltinas J, et al. - In patients with acute retinal necrosis (ARN) treated initially with intravenous aciclovir vs oral valaciclovir therapy, authors attempted to compare the visual outcomes. In the management of ARN, oral valaciclovir was seen to be clinically equivalent to intravenous therapy. Findings revealed oral valaciclovir to be an outpatient therapy either with or without intravitreal foscarnet. Hence, it could be considered as an acceptable alternative to inpatient therapy required for intravenous treatment.
