Journal of Arthroplasty Jun 16, 2018
Masrouha KZ, et al. - Authors compared the risk of thromboembolism and bleeding in patients who underwent simultaneous bilateral total knee arthroplasty (SBTKA) compared to unilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA). An elevated risk of postoperative venous thromboembolism (VTE), bleeding and composite morbidity at 30 days was conferred by SBTKA confers, without any increase in mortality. Patients of black or Asian origin, obese patients and those who underwent anesthesia other than general or spinal / epidural were included in the SBTKA subgroups at higher risk for VTE; as seen on stratification analysis.
