Comparing a new hydroexpression technique with conventional forceps method for SMILE lenticule removal

British Journal of Ophthalmology Nov 15, 2017

Ng ALK, et al. - The authors elucidated a modified ‘hydroexpression’ technique for the lenticule removal during small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) surgery. The results were then compared with conventional forceps method. The data led to the conclusion that hydroexpression was simple and safe and displayed early results comparable to the conventional forceps technique. This technique appeared to be particularly beneficial for cases with more adhesions between lenticule and anterior cap, thin lenticule cases and for the inexperienced SMILE surgeons.
