Comparative profiling of serum protein biomarkers in rheumatoid arthritis–associated interstitial lung disease and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis
Arthritis & Rheumatology Feb 08, 2020
Kass DJ, Nouraie N, Glassberg MK, et al. - The present study was conducted to present the molecular basis of this overlap through comparative profiling of serum proteins in rheumatoid arthritis-associated interstitial lung disease (RA-ILD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Researchers used multiplex enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays to profile 45 protein biomarkers containing cytokines/chemokines, growth factors, and matrix metalloproteinases in sera collected from RA individuals with ILD and those without, individuals with IPF, and healthy controls. Levels of selected serum proteins were analyzed between patient subgroups applying adjusted linear regression, principal component analysis, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator modeling. The data showed that comparative serum protein biomarker profiling serves a viable approach for identifying RA-ILD from RA–no ILD and recognizing population-specific mediators dealt with IPF.
