Comorbidities and COPD severity in a clinic-based cohort
BMC Pulmonary Medicine Jul 23, 2018
Raherison C, et al. - Researchers focused on the link between specific comorbidities and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) severity in a large real-life cohort. They described the cluster of comorbidities by performing a principal component analysis and a non-hierarchical cluster analysis. The occurrence of multimorbidity in COPD patients was common. Five clusters demonstrating five phenotypes of comorbidities were cardiac profile; less comorbidities; metabolic syndrome; apnea and anxiety-depression; and denutrition and osteoporosis and bronchiectasis. A significant association of these clusters with symptomatic patients ie, Global Obstructive Lung Disease Initiatives (GOLD) B and GOLD D, was observed.
