Colchicine therapy in patients with coronary artery disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Coronary Artery Disease Jul 30, 2021
Al-Abdouh A, Barbarawi M, Khan SU, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, researchers analyzed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assessing colchicine in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients. These studies were identified from PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane library, and Embase databases. Overall six RCTs with 6154 patients were analyzed. At the median follow-up of 3.5 months, colchicine use in CAD patients was not related to statistically significant decrease of major adverse cardiovascular events, myocardial infarction, all-cause death, cardiovascular death, and stroke. Thus, it was clear that colchicine therapy failed to confer a significant reduction in cardiovascular endpoints and mortality in patients suffering from CAD.
