Cognitively unimpaired individuals with a low burden of Aβ pathology have a distinct CSF biomarker profile
Alzheimer's Research & Therapy Jul 30, 2021
Milà-Alomà M, Shekari M, Salvadó G, et al. - This cross-sectional study was undertaken to determine if cognitively unimpaired individuals with a low burden of amyloid-β (Aβ) pathology have a distinct CSF, structural, and functional neuroimaging biomarker profile. The sample consisted of 318 middle-aged, cognitively unimpaired people from the ALFA+ cohort. In individuals with a low burden of Aβ pathology, there are biologically meaningful Aβ-downstream effects, but structural and functional changes are still subtle or absent. Such findings suggest that individuals with a low burden of Aβ pathology should be considered for clinical trials.
