Cognitive changes in peritoneal dialysis patients: A multicenter prospective cohort study
American Journal of Kidney Diseases Jul 19, 2018
Zhang YH, et al. - Researchers performed this study on a total of 458 peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients to determine changes in cognitive function and factors associated with it in these subjects over a period of 2 years. They assessed global and specific domains of cognitive function at baseline and after 2 years. They found that over 2 years, there was a decline in the global cognitive function, however, improvement was noted in some specific cognitive domains (executive function, immediate memory, and visuospatial skill). The factors that conferred risk for cognitive impairment over and above well-recognized factors included hypoalbuminemia and depression.
