Clomiphene citrate and neural tube defects: A meta-analysis of controlled observational studies
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Apr 27, 2019
Auffret M, et al. - In order to conduct an updated quantitative meta-analysis of the association of periconceptional clomiphene citrate (CC) exposure with risk of neural tube defects (NTDs), researchers sought for comparative cohort and case-control studies on this topic from MEDLINE, Web of Science and Scopus (October 2018). The inclusion criteria were met by 13 studies totaling 218,819 pregnancies. Outcomes of this analysis confirm the correlation of exposure to CC before or in early pregnancy with a 21% increased risk of NTD in relation to CC exposure. However, this increased risk is not statistically significant.
