Clinicopathological features and outcomes of esophageal lesions containing a basal layer type squamous cell carcinoma component
Cancer Management and Research Sep 25, 2019
Zhuang X, Chen Z, Wang J, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the clinicopathological features and prognosis of esophageal squamous carcinoma lesions with a basal layer type squamous cell carcinoma (BLSCC) component via analyzing 96 patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma who underwent endoscopic submucosal resection in their hospital. Among these, 32 (33.3%, 32/96) lesions were detected in BLSCC components. As per single-factor and multivariate analyses, presence of five or more independently scattered, deep-stained spots in iodine-unstained areas were significantly predictive of the presence of BLSCC components (OR = 4.837). They recommend actively treating such lesion and undertaking more rigorous follow-up protocol for the lesions due to a higher possibility of late recurrence.
