Clinically relevant potential drug-drug interactions in intensive care patients: A large retrospective observational multicenter study
Journal of Critical Care Dec 23, 2020
Bakker T, Abu-Hanna A, Dongelmans DA, et al. - This study was sought to define the frequency of clinically relevant potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) (crpDDIs) to enable tailoring of clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) to the ICU setting. Researchers performed a multicenter retrospective observational study using medication administration data to distinguish pDDIs in ICU admissions from 13 ICUs. In the ICU setting, considering the clinical relevance of pDDIs is important, as only half of the detected pDDIs were crpDDIs. Thus, the data demonstrated that the tailoring CDSSs to the ICU may decrease alert fatigue and improve medication safety in ICU patients.
