Clinical significance of respiratory virus detection in patients with acute exacerbation of interstitial lung diseases
Respiratory Medicine Feb 14, 2018
Saraya T, et al. - This study entailed determination of the frequency of virus infections in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) or non-IPF interstitial lung disease (ILDs) including idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) or connective tissue disease (CTD)-associated pneumonia. Moreover, its impact on their short-term mortality was also assessed. Both patients with acute exacerbation of IPF and non-IPF ILDs were found to have viral infections, mostly cytomegalovirus or human herpesvirus 7, but no information could be obtained concerning the clinical significance on short-term mortality or isolation itself from respiratory samples.
