Clinical response rates, placebo response rates and significantly associated covariates are dependent upon choice of outcome measure in hidradenitis suppurativa: A post-hoc analysis of PIONEER 1 and 2 individual patient data

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Jan 08, 2020

Frew JW, Jiang CS, Singh N, et al. - Using the IHS4 and PIONEER 1 and 2 Individual Patient Data, researchers conducted this re-analysis to assess the effectiveness of adalimumab vs placebo using the International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Score System (IHS4), as well as to evaluate the effect of draining tunnels upon therapeutic response as measured by both the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Clinical Response (HiSCR) and change in nodule counts. The use of binary outcome measures is partly due to high placebo response rates in PIONEER 1 and 2. Draining tunnels, smoking, antibiotics, and BMI in Pioneer 2 have an effect on the HiSCR response. Further investigation into the impact of BMI upon clinical response is needed.
