Clinical outcomes of Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty in eyes with glaucoma drainage devices
Journal of Glaucoma Jul 08, 2019
Kang JJ, et al. - In this retrospective chart review, researchers reported visual outcomes and complications of Descemet stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) in eyes with glaucoma drainage devices (GDD). For this investigation, they analyzed 122 procedures of 85 eyes of 83 patients who had DSEK and had prior or concurrent GDD implantation. They excluded patients with a postoperative follow-up of <3 months from the analysis. It was noted that graft dislocation happened in 27 (31.8%) eyes and needed repeat injection of air in the anterior chamber. Data reported that estimated survival rates at 1, 2, and 3 years were 89%, 78%, and 50%, respectively. According to results, DSEK after GDD is a feasible solution to treating endothelial dysfunction, with visual enhancement in most patients. Aqueous shunt implantation, however, has a significant adverse effect on the survival of long-term graft and close follow-up is warranted.
