Clinical outcomes following selective laser trabeculoplasty in Afro-Caribbean patients with glaucoma at high risk for progression
British Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 14, 2021
Realini T, Shillingford-Ricketts H, Burt D, et al. - In a prospective interventional case series, researchers described clinical outcomes following selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) in eyes of Afro-Caribbean patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) at high risk for progression. Among 33 right eyes (left eye outcomes were similar) in the IOP group, mean (SD) IOP was significantly declined from 21.7 (7.5) mmHg to 16.2–17.1 mmHg over follow-up; drug usage was unchanged at all time points. Up to 24 months after a single 360° SLT therapy, Afro-Caribbean patients with OAG at risk of progression will achieve clinically and statistically significant reductions in IOP or medications. There were no vision-threatening side effects.
