Clinical implications of electrocardiographic bundle branch block in primary care
Heart May 31, 2019
Rasmussen PV, et al. – In this study involving 200,000 primary care patients free of major cardiovascular (CV) disease, researchers assessed the link between electrocardiographic bundle branch block (BBB) subtypes and the risk of CV outcomes. Participants were referred for electrocardiogram recording. Findings revealed a link of left bundle branch block with heart failure (HF) in both men and women and with CV mortality in men. Both men and women demonstrated associations of right bundle branch block (RBBB) with pacemaker implantation and HF. A weak link of RBBB with CV death was evident in men. Overall, future HF and pacemaker implantation should be anticipated in primary care patients without major CV disease with opportunistic findings in BBB subtypes.
