Clinical factors associated with cutaneous histopathologic findings in dermatomyositis
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology Feb 14, 2019
Wolstencroft PW, et al. - In this study, researchers assessed 228 samples to estimate the clinical factors correlated with cutaneous histopathologic findings in dermatomyositis. They observed interface dermatitis in 91% whereas 95% had at least one of perivascular inflammation, mucin or basal vacuolization in biopsies taken from sites of visible rash. They found no association of vascular abnormalities with an epidermal or inflammatory finding. A decline in the odds of basal vacuolization, perivascular inflammation, and vessel damage was noted with concomitant prednisone. They inferred the impact of corticosteroid use on skin biopsy findings.
