Clinical epidemiology of carbapenem-resistant gram-negative sepsis among hospitalized patients: Shifting burden of disease?
American Journal of Infection Control May 03, 2018
Britt NS, et al. - Considering the emerging public health threat with respect to the infections caused by carbapenem-resistant gram-negative bacilli, researchers examined comparative incidence rates, risk factors, and outcomes in this population via performing single-center retrospective cohort study at an urban tertiary-care academic medical center. Patients with carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) vs carbapenem-resistant non-Enterobacteriaceae (CRNE) sepsis did not differ in terms of clinical outcomes. They noted dramatic increases in CRE, particularly Enterobacter spp., that may be causing a shift in the burden of clinically significant carbapenem-resistant gram-negative infection.
