Rheumatology International Dec 20, 2018
Atas N, et al. - Experts sought to examine the clinical and treatment characteristics of Behçet disease (BD) patients with diagnosis of avascular necrosis (AVN). They noted 24 months to be the median time interval between initial corticosteroid (CS) dose and AVN development. Sixty four mg/day was the median highest daily CS dose and median cumulative CS dose prior to AVN was 18 g. Intravenous pulse steroids were seen in all patients. In patients with BD, AVN may be predisposed by CS treatment, smoking and vascular involvement. According to this cohort, AVN was seen frequently in BD in the knee joint and bilateral.
