Clinical characteristics and outcomes in microscopic polyangiitis patients with renal involvement: A study of 124 Chinese patients
BMC Nephrology Sep 12, 2019
Shi J, et al. - In this retrospective observational cohort study, researchers investigated microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) patients with renal involvement in order to assess the prognostic factors related to all-cause mortality and renal survival in these individuals. Excluding cases with end-stage renal disease, 124 cases with newly diagnosed MPA with renal involvement were included. The participants were hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. The study sample included 52 men (41.9%) and 72 women (58.1%), aged between 25 to 85 years (63.9 ± 10.6 years). In multivariate Cox analysis, the link of age ≥ 65 years, serum creatinine ≥ 500 μmol/L and interstitial lung disease (ILD) with mortality was revealed. In Cox multivariate analysis, the factors that were independently detrimental for renal survival were serum creatinine ≥ 500 μmol/L and ILD, and immunosuppressive treatment was identified as a protective factor for renal survival. In this patient population, the identified independent predictors of mortality were age, serum creatinine level at diagnosis and ILD.
