Clinical and laboratory features of patients with osteomalacia initially presenting with neurological manifestations

Kim SW, et al. - Experts evaluated the clinical features of osteomalacia patients who visited the neurology department (NR). Findings suggested the common etiologies to be tumors or antiepileptic medication. A frequent presentation of hypocalcemia, hypovitaminosis D, and pain with less severe weakness was seen in these patients. Patients with osteomalacia commonly visited the neurology department. Owing to the superimposed neurological disease and accompanying hypocalcemia, the clinical presentation of these patients could be more complex. When patients present with pain and weakness, osteomalacia ought to be considered.
