Cine MRI during spontaneous cramps in women with menstrual pain
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 15, 2018
Hellman KM, et al. - In this study, researchers evaluated if magnetic resonance imaging could detect real-time changes in myometrial activity during cramping episodes in women with dysmenorrhea, with a handheld squeeze bulb for pain reporting. They observed that in women with menstrual pain, transient decreases in myometrial uterine T2-weighted signal intensity could be reliably measured. As per the directionality of signal change and temporal relationship to pain onset, a combination of uterine pressure and hemodynamic dysfunction could cause cramping pain.
