Chronic maternal hepatitis B virus infection and pregnancy outcome- A single center study in Kunming, China
BMC Infectious Diseases Mar 17, 2021
Sun Q, Lao TT, Du M, et al. - Researchers conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study in Kunming, a multi-ethnic city in south-western China, in order to determine the impact of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection on pregnancy outcomes in Chinese population. The study cohort comprised 49,479 gravidae; of whom, 1,624 (3.3%) were HBsAg seropositive gravidae and had a lower incidence of nulliparity and having received tertiary education. The relationship with spontaneous labor and decreased SGA infants could have helped to increase the perpetuation of the infection through improved survival of the offspring infected at birth, thus explaining the high prevalence in the Chinese population.
