Infection May 17, 2018
Feng J, et al. - Researchers sought to summarize the characteristics of pulmonary mucormycosis and to systemically explore risk factors for the outcome. They retrospectively analyzed 92 patients with pulmonary mucormycosis, including 12 patients at Peking Union Medical College Hospital and 80 patients published in 62 articles between 2006 and 2016. Observations revealed a rare occurrence of this infection but with a high mortality. For a definite diagnosis, invasive approach for histopathology and culture seemed crucial. Acute onset patients had a poorer prognosis, and early treatment with antifungal therapy is imperative. they recommend undertaking surgical approach in appropriate patients for a better outcome.
