Characteristic morphology of the proximal tibiofibular joint in patients with discoid lateral meniscus

The Knee Aug 16, 2018

Suga N, et al. - Researchers gauged the morphology of the proximal tibiofibular joint (PTFJ) on MRI and how this differs between patients with and without discoid lateral meniscus (DLM). Findings suggested a significant association of the horizontal-type PTFJ with DLM, and a horizontal-type PTFJ following epiphyseal closure retained in the patients with DLM. On the contrary, there was a probability of the PTFJ, in patients with a normal meniscus, to change from a horizontal-type to an oblique-type PTFJ in line with bone maturity.
