Changes in intraocular pressure during reading or writing on smartphones in patients with normal-tension glaucoma
British Journal of Ophthalmology Sep 11, 2019
Ha A, et al. - Via involving 40 eyes of 40 medically well intraocular pressure (IOP)-controlled normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) patients and 38 eyes of 38 NTG patients who had undergone successful trabeculectomy (TLE), researchers studied the impact of reading or writing on a smartphone in terms of IOP change in eyes with glaucoma, and ascertained if previous glaucoma filtering surgery can influence IOP fluctuation during such work. Investigators found that working on a low-light smartphone can lead to IOP elevation in patients treated with NTG. However, IOP fluctuation was much smaller in those who had undergone TLE among the candidates in this research.
