Changes in intraocular pressure and anterior chamber angle after congenital cataract extraction

Journal of Glaucoma Jan 17, 2021

Gouda J, Tomairek RH, Elhusseiny AM, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective observational study to examine the changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) and in the anterior chamber angle during the first 2 years after pediatric cataract surgery and to determine risk factors for such changes. The sample consisted of infants who underwent pediatric cataract surgery in Cairo University Hospitals and completed a 1-year follow-up. According to findings, postoperative IOP elevation > 18 mmHg occurred in 23 eyes of 206 eyes (11%) completed Year 1 and in 9 (13%) of 86 eyes completed Year 2. For early-onset IOP elevation, higher preoperative CCT was a risk factor. Aphakia was not, in Years 1 and 2, a major risk factor for angle narrowing. At > 2 months, surgery was associated with lower susceptibility to IOP elevation at late-onset.
