Changes in associations of prescription opioid use disorder and illegal behaviors among adults in the United States from 2002-2014
Addiction May 02, 2019
Mintz CM, et al. - Researchers examined individuals with and without prescription opioid use disorder (POUD) for changes in the prevalence of illegal behaviors over time. Further, they investigated how transactions for obtaining opioids have changed among persons with POUD over time. They performed temporal trend analysis of repeated cross-sectional data of US household dwelling populations from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. From 2002 to 2014, people with POUD showed an increase in some crimes rates potentially related to drug use vs those without POUD—despite a decreasing prescription opioid supply.
