Cerclage for women with twin pregnancies: A systematic review and meta-analysis
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dec 13, 2018
Li C, et al. - Researchers investigated the impact of cerclage placement on extending the prolongation of pregnancy, reducing the risk of preterm birth (PTB) and improving perinatal outcomes in women with twin pregnancies. Searching Medline, EMBASE, Scopus, ClinicalTrials.gov, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library from inception to July 2018, they included a total of 16 studies with 1211 women in the final analysis. Outcomes suggest that in twin pregnancies with a cervical length (CL) < 15 mm or dilated cervix > 10 mm, cerclage placement is beneficial for reducing PTB and prolonging pregnancy. However, the current literature did not clarify the benefit of history-indicated or twin alone-indication cerclage in twin pregnancies with normal CL.
