Causative pathogens of endophthalmitis after intravitreal anti-VEGF injection: An international multicenter study
Ophthalmologica Mar 23, 2019
Busch C, et al. - In this retrospective, international multicenter study, researchers assessed the data to analyze the microbiological spectrum of endophthalmitis after anti-VEGF injections and also to estimate the streptococcal with non-streptococcus-associated cases with respect to baseline features and injection procedure. They observed 83 cases with 87 recognized pathogens. They noted coagulase-negative staphylococci (59%) and viridans streptococci (15%), the most common pathogens. They also noticed a reduction in the rate of streptococcus-induced endophthalmitis cases with the use of postoperative antibiotics and performance of injections in an operating room setting.
