Cataract surgery outcomes in eyes with primary epiretinal membrane
JAMA Ophthalmology Jan 02, 2018
Hardin JS, et al. - This study was designed to elucidate cataract surgery outcomes, mainly visual outcome and cystoid macular edema risk, in eyes with primary epiretinal membrane (ERM). Findings revealed that on average, visual acuity (VA) improved 0.27 logMAR (approximately 3 Snellen lines) in eyes with ERM. Despite being more beneficial for eyes with ERM and VA of 20/40 or less vs those with better preoperative vision, cataract surgery was associated with higher rates of cystoid macular edema and a lower postoperative VA gain when compared with eyes without ERM.
