Cardiovascular findings in patients with nonsurgical hypoparathyroidism and pseudohypoparathyroidism: A cohort study
Clinical Endocrinology Jan 31, 2019
Underbjerg L, et al. - Data is sparse on cardiovascular health indices in patients with nonsurgical hypoparathyroidism (Ns-HypoPT) and pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP), so researchers compared the cardiovascular profile of these patient types. In this cohort study, they included 56 patients with Ns-HypoPT and 30 with PHP who had a clinical examination including blood sampling and measurements of arterial stiffness, pulse wave velocity (PWV) and blood pressure (BP). They discovered that office BP and 24-hour ambulatory BP did not vary among groups, PHP patients had significantly reduced high-density lipoproteins cholesterol levels and average glucose from HbA1c vs Ns-HypoPT. Patients with Ns-HypoPT had higher arterial stiffness and heart rate vs PHP, which was related to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease. Data indicate that PTH resistance exists in the cardiovascular system in PHP.
